Abstract

Title:Interspace
Abstract:
In my thesis, I attempt to apply and substantiate the term “interspace” through the media of photography and painting. My research draws on numerous contemporary artistic practices that explore the boundaries of representation, the differences between media, and the ways in which images are perceived. Using selected examples from contemporary art, I contextualize and reflect on my own artistic practice, observing the process of transfer, transformation, and change of the image as it transitions to another medium. With the painting Table and Three Chairs, I present my first attempt at a transfer between the photographic and painterly media, as well as a starting point for reflecting on the relationship between the original and the copy. I focus on the question of a new reality that emerges in the interspace between the two media, and on the ways in which this interspace manifests itself through the painterly interpretation of photographic reference material. In my more recent artworks, Chair and A Pile of Hay, I continue to explore the captured moment and environment, which I attempt to transfer into the medium of painting with a high degree of similarity, while simultaneously adding greater spatial depth and a more pronounced emotional dimension. The work thus reveals the interspace as an active field of transformation, where technical precision and the subjective experience of the image converge.
