This diploma thesis examines the organization and monitoring of construction works during the reconstruction and extension of the Ilirska Bistrica Home for the Elderly. The project comprised the renovation of existing premises, two reinforced-concrete extensions, a steel vertical extension, an external fire escape staircase, and external works. A particular challenge was that the facility remained in operation throughout construction, requiring the site organization to be adapted to the residents, employees, and daily operation of the home. The thesis presents construction site preparation and organization, construction phasing and sequencing, the construction schedule, transport and storage areas, temporary utility connections, and the execution of the main construction works. Particular emphasis is placed on the actual construction process, coordination of subcontractors and material deliveries, adaptation of design solutions to actual site conditions, and construction monitoring through the construction diary, measurement book, and monthly interim payment statements. The project demonstrated that successful construction depends primarily on thorough site preparation, appropriate construction phasing, continuous monitoring of the construction schedule, timely resolution of deviations, effective coordination of contractors, and accurate maintenance of construction documentation.
