Abstract
S pomočjo ikonografske in primerjalne analize naloga preučuje obliko, barvo, materiale in vzorce, prisotne v izdelavi takratnega hanboka, ter raziskuje njihovo simbolno vlogo v kontekstu družbene hierarhije, spolnih vlog in ritualne prakse.

Title:A Study of Korea’s Traditional Attire, Hanbok: Focus on the Late Joseon Period
Abstract:
This thesis examines the cultural, aesthetic and philosophical significance of the traditional Korean attire known as hanbok, focusing on the late Joseon period (18th – 19th century). Rather than viewing hanbok as a mere clothing item, the study views it as a symbolic cultural element that visually embodied values and social order derived from Confucian and Neo Confucian thought. Throughout iconographic and comparative analysis of its shapes, colors, materials and patterns this research explores how these elements were connected to social status, gender roles and ritual practices. The findings show that hanbok during the late Joseon period carried a high degree of standardization and symbolic richness, reflecting moral values such as modesty, propriety and social harmony. The comparative analysis revealed that although hanbok evolved in a dialogue with external influences, it was during this period that it solidified into a distinctly Korean expression, forming the iconic style recognized today. Furthermore, in modern times, hanbok continuously serves as a living tradition, especially through forms like saenghwal hanbok (lifestyle hanbok) and contemporary reinterpretations, conveying Korean cultural identity in a global context.
