The NEO multimedia platform enables users to watch television and other multimedia content on various devices. Over the years, the API gateway and core TV platform accumulated business responsibilities, making development and maintenance more difficult. Based on an analysis of the existing architecture, a selected part of the backend was redesigned and prototyped with a thin API gateway without business logic and domain-oriented microservices with separate data models. The redesign covers communication, caching, observability, CI/CD, and gradual migration. The key finding is that the solution clarifies responsibilities and supports greater independence in service development. Measurements showed improved responsiveness and the ability to scale automatically. The median response time for reordering TV channels fell from 770 ms to 48 ms, while the number of replicas of the selected service increased from two to seven under higher load and then decreased to two after the load was reduced.
