Abstract
The thesis focuses on cable testing, measurements and fault location on cable lines. First, the company Elektro Ljubljana d.d. is presented as an introduction to the distribution system. Then, with the help of technical guidelines, medium-voltage and low-voltage cables, which are mainly used in distribution networks, are described. A brief overview of cable diagnostics is also provided, as it has become increasingly important in modern power system. Diagnostic methods enable the prevention of failures and help avoid significant costs associated with cable faults.
The theoretical part presents methods that can be used to test the cable and describe the devices with which measurements can be performed, and explains the procedures for fault location and the equipment used to detect cable faults.
In the practical part, theoretical knowledge is transferred to the field. Actual measurements at RTP Bežigrad are described. This is followed by a description of cable faults from the field and the procedures for how we got to the fault location in Dole pri Polici.
