Abstract

Title:FORCE MEASUREMENTS ON CLIMBING HOLDS
Abstract:
In this thesis, the development of a compact and cost-effective measurement system for measuring force in a climbing hold and wirelessly transmitting the measured data to a computer is presented. The system is intended for monitoring and analysing climbers' finger strength, with force measurement based on a load cell. The signal from the load cell is converted into digital form using the HX711 chip, while an ESP32 microcontroller is responsible for data acquisition, processing, and wireless transmission. As part of the thesis, a printed circuit board (PCB) was designed and manufactured, which, due to its small dimensions, is suitable for integration into a climbing hold. A software architecture was also developed to enable communication between the measurement system and the computer, as well as the reception and display of the measured data. The work included calibration of the measurement system and experimental evaluation of its measurement characteristics, with the accuracy, uncertainty, and stability of the measurements being analysed. The final product is a functional measurement system that enables wireless acquisition of force data and provides a basis for using these measurements to monitor and analyse climbing performance.
