Abstract

Title:EV charging stations and smart charging using the Reduxi system at the Port of Koper
Abstract:
The aim of this thesis is to present the process of planning, analyzing, and implementing a smart electric vehicle charging system at the Port of Koper using the Reduxi system. The topic was selected due to the Port of Koper’s gradual transition from fossil-fuel-powered vehicles to electric vehicles, which requires additional charging points and, above all, a solution for dynamic power management. The starting point of the thesis is the limited connection capacity of the facility; therefore, it is necessary to ensure that the simultaneous operation of multiple charging stations does not exceed the permitted load of the electrical grid. The thesis presents how the Reduxi system operates by using real-time measurements of the facility’s current power consumption to calculate the power available for charging and then distribute it among individual charging points. Communication with the charging stations is carried out via the OCPP protocol, through which the system sends permitted current limits and adjusts the charging process according to the current conditions of the electrical grid. As part of the work, a concept for integrating the system into the existing infrastructure at the Port of Koper was developed, communication between the measuring devices, the Reduxi system, and the charging stations was configured, and a procedure was prepared for verifying the operation of dynamic power allocation with several vehicles connected simultaneously. This approach enables safe and transparent management of the charging infrastructure, better utilization of the available connection capacity, and a reduced risk of overloading the electrical grid. The system is therefore suitable as a basis for further expansion of charging points and the gradual electrification of the vehicle fleet at the Port of Koper.
