Abstract

Title:Glaze as Form – A Study of Viscous Effect Glazing
Abstract:
In my thesis, I focus on researching glazes with special effects, with an emphasis on viscous glaze. I explore adjustments to the chemical structure — or formula — of the viscous glaze, as well as to the firing process. This allows me to achieve various visual effects in the glaze, which, through research and experimentation, I use to shape porcelain sculptures, thereby exploring the potential of the glaze itself. I investigate the influence of firing temperature and time on the appearance and properties of the glaze. I am interested in how the glaze affects form, and how, in certain cases, the glaze itself can even become form. Throughout the process, I pay particular attention to the uniqueness of the experiments, using these findings for further research. In this way, I achieve the desired interplay between the glaze surface and the form of the ceramic piece.
