Abstract

Title:Characterization of vanadium(IV) compound with acetylacetonate.
Abstract:
Bis(acetylacetonato)oxovanadium(IV) (VO(acac)2) was synthesized from vanadium(V) oxide (V2O5) via two synthetic routes using different acids. The obtained products were crystallized from several solvents, and reactions with nitrogen-donor ligands were carried out. The resulting products were characterized by powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD). VO(acac)2 was identified as the main crystalline phase in the products obtained by both synthetic routes. Upon crystallization from most of the tested solvents, the main crystalline phase was retained, whereas crystallization from DMF resulted in diffraction patterns suggesting the possible formation of a new crystalline phase. In the reactions with nitrogen-donor ligands, products with a lower degree of crystallinity compared with the starting compounds were obtained; therefore, the formation of new coordination compounds could not be reliably confirmed based on the PXRD data.
