Abstract
To magistrsko delo predstavlja uglaševanje parametrov regulatorja s pomočjo programske opreme LOOP-PRO, ter implementira logiko programirljivega logičnega krmilnika (PLK) za proporcionalno-integralno-derivativne (PID) regulatorje v kaskadni regulaciji gostote raztopine kot del razpršenega krmilnega sistema rafinerije. Preskusi in odzivi za nastavitev parametrov so bili pridobljeni z beleženjem vhodnih in izhodnih signalov PLK ob simuliranem delovanju rafinerije. Prav tako je podan pregled sistema za regulacijo procesov, ki opisuje medsebojno delovanje senzorjev in izvedbenih elementov, krmilno logiko ter vmesnik za nadzor. To ponuja širši vpogled v to, kako se kaskadna PID struktura vključuje v celoten proces, od pridobivanja signalov do končnega aktiviranja reguliranih elementov. PID zanke so bile implementirane kot del kode PLK-ja s pomočjo programske opreme PlantPAx, knjižnice za regulacijo procesov podjetja Rockwell Automation. Ta programska oprema je omogočila tudi podporne funkcije, kot so zaščita pred preobremenitvijo, nemoten prehod in obravnava zasičenosti izhoda, ki so pomembne za zanesljivo delovanje v praksi. Med testiranjem kaskadne regulacije je struktura PID/PI dala podobne rezultate kot struktura PI/PI, ki je bila na koncu sprejeta kot primarna struktura. Rešitve so bile izbrane tako, da bo obstoječi sistem omogočal prihodnje izboljšave, ko bosta logika in regulacija prenesena v dejanski rafinerijski sistem.

Title:Development of the PLC control and tuning of the density cascade control in the PlantPAx system
Abstract:
This thesis presents controller parameter tuning using LOOP-PRO software and implements programmable logic controller (PLC) logic for Proportional-Integral-Derivative (PID) controllers in the cascade control of solution density, as part of a refinery distributed control system. Tests and responses for parameter tuning were obtained by recording PLC input and output signals with simulated refinery behaviour. An overview of the process control system is also provided, describing the interaction between sensors and actuators, the control logic, and the monitoring interface. This forms a broader picture of how the cascade PID structure fits within the complete process, from signal acquisition to final control element actuation. The PID loops were implemented as part of the PLC code using PlantPAx software, Rockwell Automation’s process control library. This software also enabled supporting functions such as anti-windup protection, bumpless transfer, and output saturation handling, which are important for reliable operation in practice. During testing of the cascade control, the PID/PI structure gave similar results to the PI/PI structure, which was ultimately adopted as the primary structure. Solutions were selected so that the existing system will facilitate future improvements when the logic and control are transferred to the real refinery system.
