The purpose of this thesis was to develop an interactive website prototype for the Škofja Loka Town Wind Orchestra using the user-centered design approach. The aim was to improve the usability, accessibility and user experience of the existing website and to evaluate the effectiveness of the designed solution.
In the theoretical part, we presented the fundamental characteristics and importance of modern websites, their role in increasing digital presence and key aspects of usability. We discussed the principles of user interface and user experience, Gestalt principles of visual perception, principles of universal design, user-centered design and design thinking.
In the experimental part, we analysed the existing website and conducted a comparative analysis of competing websites. Based on research methods, we designed the information architecture, wireframe, and an interactive prototype of the user interface. The prototype was designed for a default desktop resolution (1440 × 1024 px). The user experience was evaluated through a quantitative online survey.
The research results show that, compared to the existing website, the prototype is more transparent, intuitive, and user-friendly. Users were able to access key information quickly and with a minimal number of interactions, confirming a well-structured information architecture and clear content hierarchy. The colour palette was identified as the main area for improvement. Based on these conclusions, we can say that the objective of the thesis was achieved, as the prototype represents an improvement of the existing website in terms of usability and user experience.
