The master’s thesis examines the fire resistance of slender timber columns and the influence of various parameters on their behaviour under fire exposure. Particular attention is given to the effects of elevated temperatures, thermal degradation, and timber charring on its mechanical properties and structural stability. The research is based on numerical modelling using the SAFIR software and sequential thermomechanical analysis under standard fire exposure according to the ISO 834 fire curve. A parametric study was conducted to evaluate the influence of cross-sectional dimensions, column length, and intumescent protection on the structural response. The results contribute to a better understanding of the thermomechanical behaviour of slender timber columns and the factors affecting the preservation of their stability and load-bearing capacity during fire.
