Introduction: Radiological examinations of pediatric patients require different skills from those needed for adults. They require specialized knowledge of pediatric pathologies and an understanding of the various stages of children's development, comprehension, and communication. It is essential to master communication techniques specific to different age groups of children. Purpose: The purpose of this thesis is to present the importance of communication in imaging diagnostics, with a focus on pediatric patients. We want to explore how the communication of a radiographer affects a child's experience of a radiological examination and the performance of diagnostic imaging, what challenges radiographers face when performing diagnostic imaging on pediatric patients, and what distraction techniques radiographers use to perform diagnostic imaging on pediatric patients. Methods: We used a descriptive method, reviewing scientific and professional literature using various databases such as PubMed, DiKUL, Radiography, and ScienceDirect. Our search focused on keywords and their synonyms in English: pediatric patient, communication in radiology, radiographer, communication with pediatric patients, imaging pediatric patients, paediatrics. We applied inclusion criteria of publication dates between 2014 and 2025 and availability of the full text in English. Results: Out of a total of 171 identified results, we included 10 articles in the study, which we classified according to title, authors, year of publication, objective, and research findings. Discussion and conclusion: The authors emphasize the importance of good communication for the successful performance of pediatric imaging diagnostics. Communication by the radiographer is a key factor influencing the child's experience and the course of the imaging examination. Appropriate, clear, and age-appropriate communication reduces children's anxiety, fear, and uncertainty during various imaging procedures. For radiographers, imaging diagnostics in pediatric patients presents a major challenge, particularly in establishing effective communication and ensuring correct positioning. Distraction techniques are an important part of successful imaging. Most radiographers use verbal, visual, and audio approaches, such as music, picture explanations, stickers, rewards, and the presence of parents. Pediatric radiology requires a high level of knowledge, communication skills, empathy, and flexibility. Pediatric patients are not "small adults" but require an appropriate empathetic approach that considers their cognitive abilities, understanding, and the specifics of pediatric pathology and anatomy.
