The thesis deals with the field of lightning protection installations and the protection of objects against lightning. The purpose of the thesis is to present the process of atmospheric discharges, the principles of operation of lightning protection systems and the requirements for their design, implementation and maintenance. The theoretical part presents laws and standards in the field of lightning protection and its effects on objects and electrical installations. Individual elements of the lightning protection system are described, such as the air-termination system, grounding, equipotential bonding and overvoltage protection. Methods for designing air-termination system are also presented, such as the rolling sphere method, the protective mesh method and the protective angle method. The practical part shows an example of implementing lightning protection at the McDonald's restaurant in Novo mesto, where I was also present. The implementation of the air-termination system, down conductors, grounding system, test joints, equipotential bonding and measurements are described.
