Abstract
Ustrezna zaščita izdelkov med transportom je ključna za preprečevanje poškodb, njeno načrtovanje pa temelji na poznavanju blažilnih lastnosti embalažnih materialov. Rast spletnega nakupovanja je povečala porabo transportne embalaže, s tem pa tudi pomen poznavanja blažilnih lastnosti embalažnih materialov. V zaključni nalogi smo zasnovali in izdelali avtomatizirano napravo za izvajanje preizkusov s padcem po standardu ASTM D1596 ter z njo določili blažilni krivulji ekspandiranega polistirena in kartonskega satovja. Naprava temelji na linearnih vodilih, linearnem modulu s koračnim motorjem, linearnem aktuatorju s fail-secure sprostitvenim mehanizmom ter piezoelektričnem pospeškomeru. Krmiljenje in obdelavo podatkov izvaja računalnik Raspberry Pi 5. Rezultati so potrdili boljše blažilne lastnosti ekspandiranega polistirena, ki je pri enakih pogojih dosegal nižje pospeške in ohranjal stabilnejše blaženje pri ponovljenih udarcih, medtem ko se je pri kartonskem satovju blažilna sposobnost z zaporednimi udarci hitro poslabšala. Naprava se je izkazala za zanesljivo in ponovljivo.

Title:Development of an automated device for determining cushioning curves of packaging materials
Abstract:
Adequate protection of products during transport is essential for preventing damage, and its design relies on understanding the cushioning properties of packaging materials. Growing online shopping has increased the use of transport packaging, making knowledge of material cushioning properties even more important. In this thesis we designed and built an automated device for performing drop tests according to the ASTM D1596 standard, which we used to determine the cushioning curves of expanded polystyrene and honeycomb paperboard. The device is based on linear guides, a linear module with a stepper motor, a linear actuator with a fail-secure release mechanism and a piezoelectric accelerometer. Control and data processing are carried out by a Raspberry Pi 5 computer. The results confirmed better cushioning properties of expanded polystyrene, which achieved lower accelerations and more stable cushioning under repeated impacts, whereas the cushioning performance of honeycomb paperboard degraded quickly with successive impacts. The device proved reliable and repeatable.
