This thesis aims to explore the work of professional workers in district youth centres from the perspective of ethnically sensitive social work. Based on six interviews it tries to answer the main questions regarding special procedures they use, actual adjustments of the programmes and if the workers even pay attention to the specifics of working with young immigrants.
The results imply, that the adjustments and accommodations young immigrants receive, rely on the individual professional workers. That means, that the offered support corresponds to the values and works styles the employees find most fit. The youth centre employees find the topic of ethnicity interesting, but there is still a lack of guidelines regarding working with immigrant youth in their organizations. Some of them have personal and family-shared experiences with moving, which gives them a different perspective on their collaboration. When it comes to their users, they look at them from the perspective of individuals with unique needs, instead of members of an ethnic group or any other marginalized population.
