This thesis examines the synthesis of 2,5-diamino-3,6-dichloro-1,4-benzoquinone from
chloranil and the influence of different solvents on this transformation. Several isolation
and purification procedures were evaluated to improve the reaction yield. The resulting
2,5-diamino-3,6-dichloro-1,4-benzoquinone was then used to explore routes towards
poly(tetraamino-1,4-benzoquinone) under milder conditions than those previously
reported. The products were characterised using the available analytical methods, and
their formation and composition were evaluated.
