A novel approach to operational deflection shape analysis using a roving high-speed camera is presented. One of the main issues with optical-flow based methods of motion identification is spatial resolution. By placing the camera closer to the object and moving it along its length,
we resolve this issue, but in doing so, we introduce a few more. Mainly the lack of a common reference point, used for normalizing deflection shapes, and the limited exposure time, dedicated to each point of the structure. Besides this, with the use of proper signal and image processing,
the first few modes were identified well, with the issues of stability and reference resolved.
