This master's thesis examines the factors influencing the selection of transport companies in Slovenia. Choosing an appropriate transport company is an important decision for businesses, as it affects the reliability of supply chain processes, operating costs, and service quality. The aim of the thesis was to identify the factors that have the greatest influence on the selection of a transport company and to determine whether companies use formalised or systematic procedures when selecting transport providers.
The theoretical part is based on a review of Slovenian and international professional and scientific literature covering road transport, supplier selection, and the factors influencing the selection of transport companies. It discusses the importance of transport in the economy and supply chains, the specific characteristics of transport company selection, the main decision-making factors, and the contemporary challenges faced by transport companies and their customers.
The empirical part is based on a survey conducted among Slovenian companies that purchase transport services. The results show that transport price remains one of the most important factors in selecting a transport company. However, companies also attach considerable importance to the reliability of transport operations, the quality of communication, the flexibility of the transport provider, and previous experience and references. The findings also indicate that most companies apply some form of a systematic approach when selecting transport providers, although the degree of formalisation of these procedures varies between companies.
The findings contribute to a better understanding of the factors influencing the selection of transport companies in Slovenia and provide useful guidance for companies purchasing transport services as well as for transport providers seeking to adapt their services to market requirements.
