The present doctoral dissertation employs a variety of methods of musical analysis to examine and delineate the individual compositional elements in the orchestral works of the composer Alojz Srebotnjak, with the aim of identifying the individuality and uniqueness of his compositional and technical approaches. The results of the musical analyses reveal the composer’s inclination toward the use of more complex harmonic systems and their refinement, the application and influence of folk melodic material, a clearly defined internal and external musical form, and a distinctive and recognizable treatment of rhythm and meter. Furthermore, the study addresses orchestration techniques and approaches to instrumentation, as well as the use of individual instruments, which together shape the composer’s creative sonic identity—one that is uniquely his own.
