Abstract

Title:Guadalupe Virgin – a religious and cultural symbol of Mexico, as discussed in the poem Primavera indiana by Carlos de Sigüenza y Góngora
Abstract:
This master's thesis explores the image of Our Lady of Guadalupe as a central religious and cultural symbol of Mexican identity. It highlights the complexity of guadalupanismo, a movement that transcends religion by merging personal, collective, historical, and spiritual dimensions. At the core of the study lies Primavera indiana, a poem by Carlos de Sigüenza y Góngora, considered the first literary expression of the guadalupanist movement and a foundational text in the development of Creole and Mexican national consciousness. The thesis analyzes the historical, symbolic, and literary significance of the Virgin of Guadalupe and her role in shaping the national identity of New Spain.
