Abstract
Teoretični del naloge raziskuje razvoj brutalizma, njegov pomen v prostoru nekdanje Jugoslavije ter sodobne pristope k prenovi in ponovni uporabi arhitekturne dediščine.

Title:A new way of thinking about Jugoslav brutalism : conceptual design for the revitalization of Haludovo Palace hotel in Malinska
Abstract:
The architectural heritage of socialist Yugoslavia represents an important yet often overlooked part of the cultural heritage of Southeast Europe. Among its most significant examples are Brutalist and Modernist tourist complexes, which were constructed during a period of intensive tourism development. Following the political and economic transformations of the 1990s, many of these complexes lost their original function and gradually fell into decay. One of the most prominent examples of this architectural legacy is the Haludovo hotel complex in Malinska on the island of Krk, designed by architect Boris Magaš. This master’s thesis addresses the issue of preserving and revitalizing Brutalist architecture through the case study of the Palace Hotel Haludovo. The theoretical part examines the development of Brutalism, its significance within the context of former Yugoslavia, and contemporary approaches to the renovation and adaptive reuse of architectural heritage. The research component is based on an analysis of the historical development of the complex, its architectural characteristics, current condition, and broader social context. Based on these findings, a conceptual renovation proposal was developed that preserves the key spatial and architectural qualities of the building while introducing new programmatic functions. The proposed design combines tourism, cultural, educational, and public programs, creating conditions for the reintegration of the complex into the life of the local community. The thesis concludes that, through a carefully considered renovation approach, Brutalist architecture can be successfully adapted to contemporary needs while preserving its identity, spatial qualities, and cultural significance.
