Abstract

Title:Correlation of selected variables of strength, balance and technical performance with speed and accuracy of ball flight in soccer
Abstract:
The aim of the thesis was a) to discover how strength of anterior thigh muscles and single leg balance effects speed and accuracy of ball flight in a soccer kick of stationary ball with front inside part of the foot and b) to discover if there are any differences in kicking technique between those soccer players, who kicks ball faster and with more accuracy and those, who kicks ball slower and more inaccurately. The research group included 16 soccer players. Our testing battery included measurements of body height and weight, knee extensors isokinetic strength measurements (maximal isokinetic torque and the size of growth of isokinetic torque (SGIT)), a single leg balance test, measurements of speed and accuracy of the ball flight with aim of kicking the ball as fast and as accurate as possible. Technical performance during soccer kicks was filmed and assessed in accordance with predetermined success criteria. With the use of Pearson's correlation coefficient at the level of 1% risk we found middle connections between dependent variable speed of the ball flight and SGIT for knee extensors of kicking leg at the speed of extension 60 °/s (r = 0,63). We also found the middle connection between dependent variable speed of ball flight and SGIT for knee extensors of standing leg at the speed of extension 180 °/s (r = 0,60). There was no difference in technical performance between those, who kicked the ball faster and with more accuracy and those, who kicked the ball slower and more inaccurately. To improve the speed of the ball after soccer kick with front inside part of the foot it is necessary to incorporate the maximal and explosive strength training of knee extensors into our training programme.
