Od ločnice do središča : idejna zasnova intermodalnega vozlišča in javnega prostora v Šmarju pri Jelšah

Magistrsko delo obravnava preoblikovanje obpostajnega območja v Šmarju pri Jelšah v novo povezovalno središče kraja, ki združuje funkcije mobilnosti, javnega prostora in vsakodnevnih dejavnosti. Izhodišče predstavlja problem železniške infrastrukture kot prostorske bariere, ki razdvaja naselje in zmanjšuje kakovost urbanega prostora. Teoretično se opira na razumevanje infrastrukture kot prostorskega sistema in na model vozlišče–prostor (node–place). Z analizo konteksta uporabnikov, prometnih tokov in zvočnega okolja razvija koncept preobrazbe bariere v povezovalni element – prostorski šiv. Prostorski koncept sestavljajo štiri medsebojno povezane intervencije: nova cestna povezava, intermodalno vozlišče z javnim programom, peš-kolesarski most, ki premošča železniško ločnico ter povezuje severni in južni del naselja, in severni objekt, ki zaključuje novo urbano os. Arhitekturna rešitev izhaja iz sekvenčnega doživljanja prostora, v katerem se infrastruktura preoblikuje v javni interier. Vozlišče deluje kot osrednji javni prostor – dnevna soba kraja, most pa ni le povezava, temveč tudi prostorski poudarek in doživljajska točka. S preobrazbo železniške bariere v povezovalno os projekt pokaže, kako lahko tudi v manjšem naselju infrastrukturni rob postane nosilec javnega življenja, trajnostne mobilnosti in kakovostnega javnega prostora.

• Title: From Barrier to Social Hub : A Conceptual Design for an Intermodal Hub and Public Space in Šmarje pri Jelšah

Abstract

This master's thesis addresses the transformation of the railway station area in Šmarje pri Jelšah into a new connective centre of the settlement that brings together the functions of mobility, public space and everyday activities. Its starting point is the problem of railway infrastructure as a spatial barrier that divides the settlement and reduces the quality of urban space. Theoretically, it draws on the understanding of infrastructure as a spatial system and on the node–place model. Through an analysis of the users' context, traffic flows and the acoustic environment, it develops a concept for transforming the barrier into a connective element — a spatial seam (prostorski šiv). The spatial concept comprises four interrelated interventions: a new road connection, an intermodal hub with a public programme, a pedestrian and cycling bridge that spans the railway divide and links the northern and southern parts of the settlement, and a northern building that completes the newly established urban axis. The architectural solution proceeds from the sequential experience of space, in which infrastructure is reshaped into a public interior. The hub acts as the central public space — the living room of the town — while the bridge is not merely a connection but also a spatial focal point and an experiential landmark. By turning the railway barrier into a connective axis, the project shows how, even in a smaller settlement, an infrastructural edge can become a carrier of public life, sustainable mobility and quality public space.
