Church organists have historically held a vital role in the creation and performance of sacred music, a role that, in essence, remains unchanged today. Despite the societal progress and modernization over the decades, many of the challenges faced by organists in the first half of the 20th century persist—particularly concerning remuneration and the nature of relationships between church musicians and ecclesiastical authorities. Valuable insights into the historical context are offered by archival sources and various individual reports. These documents were compiled with the intent of addressing the social standing of church organists and informing church leadership about the state of sacred music in Slovenia.
