Title:Sezonske razlike v vsebnosti šatavarina v koreninah indijskega beluša (Asparagus racemosus Willd.)
Abstract:
Asparagus racemosus Willd. (Asparagaceae) a medicinal plant used in traditional formulations to cure of various disorders. Plant is facing the threat of being endangered due to several developmental, seasonal constrains and malpractices involved in its collection and storage. Physicochemical properties vary with season and environmental conditions. To obtain the highest medicinal value, plant must be harvest in correct season. Plant subjected to authentication and standardization as per WHO guidelines. The roots were evaluated for macroscopic and microscopic evaluation, quantitative microscopy, proximate phytochemical analysis, extractive values in petroleum ether, chloroform, ethyl acetate, ethanol, water, and determination of the concentration of the antidiabetic component shatavarin. It showed morphological and microscopical variations in different seasons. Phytochemical composition was same in all season; however levels of extractive values fluctuated in response to seasonal variations. Maximum levels of ethanol and water extract were obtained in Monsoon and also the shatavarin concentration was higher in this season. Goal of current research is to determine the best time of year to harvest based on the amount of shatavarin.
