This master’s thesis deals with the collection of video art housed by the Maribor Art Gallery. The latter represents the first Slovenian institution that began collecting video art by Slovenian authors, which it has been actively doing since 1999. The assignment presents the beginnings and history of the gallery, the development of its collections and their collecting policy with focus on the aspect of collecting video art. The history of video as a medium is summarized, from its beginnings in the sixties all the way to the present time. In addition to the collection itself, the issue of categorization and other problems of the medium, such as copyright and archiving, are also discussed. The basis for the systematic study of the collection is the inventory book of video works and the physical examination of the collection, which was carried out in the autumn of 2025.
