This master thesis explains and researches different extended techniques of cello playing that are written and defined in musical scores of composers from eastern Europe, from the time period of the 20. and 21. century. We will focus on particular compositions from composers Krzysztof Penderecki, Witold Lutoslawski, Zoltán Kodály, Pēteris Vasks and Sofia Gubaidulina.
Each chapter will be dedicated to one piece, in which we will delve into the notations, extended techniques, playing styles, and the feelings that these techniques evoke in listeners and performers.
