Povezava med kognitivni funkcijami in telesnimi sposobnostmi pri osebah z Alzheimerjevo demenco : prečno-presečna študija

Abstract
Uvod: Zaradi možnosti nastanka različnih gibalnih težav pri posameznikih z Alzheimerjevo demenco je pomembno ne le spremljanje kognitivnih funkcij, temveč tudi redno in natančno vrednotenje gibalnih funkcij. Namen te raziskave je proučiti razmerja med različnimi merami izida za ocenjevanje gibalnih sposobnosti in stopnjo kognitivnega upada pri osebah z Alzheimerjevo demenco. Metode: Izvedena je bila retrospektivna prečno-presečna študija, v katero je bilo vključenih 497 bolnikov z Alzheimerjevo demenco. Ocenjene so bile gibalne sposobnosti z baterijo šestih testov: De Mortonovim indeksom premičnosti (DEMMI), 6-minutnim testom hoje (6 MTH), testom hoje na 10 metrov (10 MTH), testom jakosti stiska roke, 30-sekundnim testom vstajanja s stola (STS) ter testom vstani in pojdi (TVP). Kognitivne sposobnosti so bile ocenjene s Kratkim preizkusom spoznavnih sposobnosti (KPSS). Rezultati: Statistično značilne majhne pozitivne povezave s KPSS (ob vključitvi starosti kot kovariate) so bile ugotovljene med DEMMI (p < 0,001), STS (p > 0,001), testom jakosti stiska roke (p = 0,031) in 6 MTH (p = 0,006), medtem ko sta bila 10 MTH (p = 0,001) in TVP (p < 0,001) statistično značilno negativno povezana s KPSS. Zaključek: Študija potrjuje, da je upad kognitivnih sposobnosti povezan z gibalnimi sposobnostmi, kar poudarja pomen telesne aktivnosti pri bolnikih z Alzheimerjevo demenco.

Title:The relationship between cognitive and physical function in people with Alzheimer's dementia : a cross-sectional study
Abstract:
Introduction: Due to the numerous potential motor impairments in individuals with Alzheimer’s dementia, it is important not only to monitor cognitive function but also to regularly and accurately assess motor abilities. The aim of this study is to examine the relationships between various outcome measures for evaluating motor abilities and the degree of cognitive decline in individuals with Alzheimer’s dementia. Methods: A retrospective cross-sectional study was conducted, including 497 patients with Alzheimer’s dementia. Physical funcitons were assessed using a battery of six tests: the De Morton Mobility Index (DEMMI), the 6-minute walk test (6 MWT), the 10-meter walk test (10 MWT), handgrip strength, the 30-second chair stand test (STS), and the Timed Up and Go test (TUG). Cognitive abilities were evaluated using the Mini Mental State Examination (MMSE). Results: Statistically significant low positive correlations with MMSE (while including age as a covariate) were found for DEMMI (p<0.001), STS (p>0.001), handgrip strength (p=0.031), and 6 MWT (p=0.006), while 10 MWT (p=0.001) and TUG (p<0.001). Conversely, 10 MWT (p = 0,001) and TUG (p<0,001) showed statistically significant negative correlations with MMSE. Conclusion: The study confirms that cognitive decline is associated with motor abilities, emphasizing the importance of physical activity for patients with Alzheimer’s dementia.
