Abstract
This report presents monitoring data of the lynx in the south-eastern Alps for the period 1.5.2024 – 30.4.2025 (lynx year 2024). The monitoring was effectuated by means of opportunistic data collection in Italy, Slovenia and Austria, GPS- and VHF-telemetry in Italy and Slovenia, and additionally by systematic camera trapping in Italy. In 2024, one lynx was released in the Italian Julian Alps in the frame of the project ULyCA (Urgent Lynx Conservation Action). A total of nine lynx were followed by means of GPS-telemetry. Lynx presence has been verified in 41 10x10 km grid cells. We identified 16 independent lynx and four reproductions and a minimum of six kittens. All reproductions were recorded in Slovenia. Since 2020, the lynx population of the south-eastern Alps is growing.
