Abstract
V delu so predstavljene zasnova, izdelava in numerična analiza zavihkov krila brezpilotnega letala, razvitega za potrebe tekmovanja Design/Build/Fly. Preliminarna zasnova je obsegala 108 različnih konfiguracij, za katere smo aerodinamične vrednosti pridobili s programom analize potencialnega toka Flow5. Za enakovredno primerjavo je bila razvita lastna programska koda VETR, s pomočjo CFD simulacij v komercialnem paketu Ansys Fluent pa smo pridobljene podatke primerjali z rezultati predhodnih analiz. Namen detajlne zasnove je bila izbira radija zaokrožitve, aeroprofila in kota zasuka krajišča. Pokazali smo, da je optimiran zavihek v celotnem analiziranem območju izboljšal aerodinamično učinkovitost, ki je bila glavni optimizacijski parameter. Kljub določenim odstopanjem smo dokazali, da je panelna metoda primerna za uporabo v začetnih korakih zasnove, a je za zanesljivejše rezultate in podrobnejši vpogled v karakteristike tokovnega polja priporočljiva uporaba programov za računalniško dinamiko tekočin. V zaključku smo podali priporočila za implementacijo nove programske kode in morebitne izboljšave pri izvajanju CFD simulacij.

Title:Design and Numerical Analysis of Winglets for a Design/Build/Fly Competition Airplane
Abstract:
This work presents the design, manufacturing, and numerical analysis of winglets for an unmanned aerial vehicle developed for the Design/Build/Fly competition. The preliminary design phase evaluated 108 different configurations, with aerodynamic data obtained using a potential flow solver Flow5. To ensure a consistent comparison, a custom software code called VETR was developed, while CFD simulations in Ansys Fluent were used to validate the acquired data against previous analyses. The detailed design phase aimed to select the optimal blending radius, airfoil, and tip twist angle. The results show that the optimized winglet improved aerodynamic efficiency, which was the primary optimization parameter, across the entire analysed envelope. Despite certain discrepancies, we demonstrated that the panel method is suitable for the initial stages of the design process; however, utilizing computational fluid dynamics software remains essential for more reliable results and a deeper insight into the flow field characteristics. Finally, recommendations for the implementation of the new software and potential improvements for conducting CFD simulations are provided.
