Grapevine trunk disease (GTD), including Esca disease, represent a major phytopathological challenges of modern viticulture and they cause an economically damage. Treatment with hot water (TT) according to EPPO PM 10/18 (1) (for 45 min at 50 °C) can be an effective tool for limiting and preventing the spread of BLVT. The aim of the master’s thesis was to determine the impact of TT on the quality of the grapevine grafts of 'Cabernet sauvignon' variety. The study includes scions of varieties that were harvest and sorted based on the GTD symptoms of mother vines and the health status of a scion: scions from vines without GTD symptoms (ZD), scions with necroses from vines with GTD symptoms (OS), and scions without necroses from vines with GTD symptoms (ON), and based on treatments, treated EPPO standard (TT) and untreated (NETT). The results showed that TT significantly increased the yield of grafted plants to an average of 75 %, regardless of the health status of the scions. No significantly differences were observed among treatments, regardless of health status, in the average weight of fruiting canes, number of all roots and of main roots, and in root diameter. A slightly more pronounced difference was shown in the number of canes, especially in ON.TT, where TT contributed to a greater number of canes compared to NETT scions. This may indicate a potentially positive impact of TT on the vegetative development of grafts in plants that are infected but do not yet show visible signs of disease. In ON. and ZD. scions, TT had a significantly reduced content of condensed tannins, 4.4 mg/g DW compared to NETT. TT was effective in limiting the presence of pathogenic fungi, such as Eutypa lata, Phaeoacremonium minimum, Phaeomoniella chlamydospora in Fomitiporia mediterranea. TT of propagation material before grafting is recommended to reduce the spread of BLVT through grafted plants.
