Abstract
Učni proces v šoli je v veliki meri odvisen od interesa in samopodobe učencev. Raziskave kažejo, da individualen interes in samopodoba pomembno vplivata na učni proces in uspeh učencev. Še posebej to velja za predmete s področja naravoslovja, ki med učenci veljajo za manj priljubljene. Sledi, da bi morali učitelji predmetov z naravoslovnih področij bolje spremljati individualne interese učencev, jih spodbujati in krepiti učno samopodobo učencev prav pri teh predmetih. Namen raziskave magistrskega dela je raziskati interese in učno samopodobo učencev šestega in devetega razreda osnovnih šol pri predmetu naravoslovje in kemija. Zanimalo nas je, kako se interes učencev in njihova samopodoba povezujeta z njihovimi asociacijami o kemiji ter katere asociacije o kemiji se pri teh učencih največkrat pojavljajo. Asociacije učencev smo merili tako z metodo prostih besednih asociacij kot z metodo prostih risalnih asociacij. V magistrskem delu so predstavljeni le rezultati risalnih asociacij, medtem ko so rezultati besednih asociacij predstavljeni v diplomskem delu Teran (2020). V raziskavi, ki je potekala v šolskem letu 2017/2018, je sodelovalo 827 učencev in učenk iz 21 osnovnih šol iz osrednjeslovenske statistične regije. Podatki so bili zbrani z dvema anketnima vprašalnikoma, pri čemer je bil eden namenjen učencem 6. razreda in drugi učencem 9. razreda. Pri raziskovanju rezultatov je bil uporabljen mešani raziskovalni pristop, ki je vseboval tako kvantitativno (v primeru individualnega interesa in učne samopodobe) kot kvalitativno (v primeru risalnih asociacij) analizo. Z raziskavo smo ugotovili, da je individualen interes o kemiji učencev 6. razreda višji od tega interesa pri učencih 9. razreda ter da je učna samopodoba pri naravoslovju med učenci 6. razreda višja od učne samopodobe pri kemiji med učenci 9. razreda. Ugotovili smo tudi, da obstaja nekolikšna povezava med risalno asociacijo učenca ter njegovim interesom in samopodobo, vendar so tovrstne povezave pri metodi risalnih asociacij težko merljive. Z raziskavo smo želeli preizkusiti metodo prostih besednih in risalnih asociacij kot raziskovalno metodo za pridobivanje vpogleda v individualne interese, učno samopodobo in napačne predstave učencev na področju kemije.

Title:Drawing associations, academic self-concept, and attitudes of primary school students towards chemistry
Abstract:
The learning process at school largely depends on students’ interest and self-concept. Research shows that individual interest and self-concept have a strong influence on the learning process and student achievement. This is especially true for science subjects, which are generally less popular among students. It follows that teachers of science subjects should more closely monitor students’ individual interest, foster it, and strengthen students’ academic self-concept particularly in these subjects. The aim of this master’s thesis is to investigate the interests and academic self-concept of sixth- and ninth-grade elementary school students in natural science and chemistry. We were also interested in how students’ interest and self-concept relate to their associations about chemistry, and which associations about chemistry occur most frequently. Students’ associations were measured using both the free word-association method and the free drawing-association method. Only the results of the drawing associations are presented in the master’s thesis, while the results of the word associations are presented in Teran (2020) in the bachelor’s thesis. The study, conducted in the 2017/2018 school year, involved 827 students from 21 elementary schools in the Central Slovenia statistical region. Data were collected with two questionnaires, one for sixth-grade students and one for ninth-grade students. A mixed-methods approach was used to analyse the results, including quantitative analysis (for individual interest and academic self-concept) and qualitative analysis (for drawing associations). The study found that sixth graders’ individual interest in chemistry is higher than that of ninth graders, and that academic self-concept in natural science is higher among sixth graders than academic self-concept in chemistry among ninth graders. We also found a modest relationship between a student’s drawing association and their interest and self-concept, although such relationships are difficult to measure using the drawing-association method. The study aimed to evaluate the free word-association and drawing-association methods as research tools for gaining insight into students’ individual interest, academic self-concept, and misconceptions in chemistry.
