Abstract
V pregled so bili vključeni članki, knjige in strokovni zborniki s področja zdravstvene nege in pediatrije, dostopni v podatkovnih bazah CINAHL Ultimate, Medline (PubMed), Cochrane, Google Učenjak ter COBIB/COBISS.

Title:Nursing care of children with Mycoplasma pneumoniae pneumonia : diploma work
Abstract:
Introduction: Pneumonia is an inflammatory respiratory disease that occurs as a result of pathogenic microorganisms entering the airways, causing inflammation of the lung tissue. The most common clinical signs and symptoms of the disease include cough, elevated body temperature, and difficult or rapid breathing. Purpose: The aim of this thesis was to investigate, based on a literature review, the characteristics of nursing care for children with pneumonia caused by Mycoplasma pneumoniae. Methods: A review of domestic and international professional literature was conducted. The review included articles, books, and professional proceedings in the fields of nursing and pediatrics, accessible through the databases CINAHL Ultimate, Medline (PubMed), Cochrane, Google Scholar, and COBIB/COBISS. Additional literature was obtained from a professional Infectious Diseases Symposium. Results: The nurse plays a key role in the early detection of deterioration in a child’s health and in prompt intervention. Based on the collected information, she collaborates with the physician to make decisions regarding further diagnostic procedures and treatments. Her role is primarily expressed as that of a coordinator, service provider, educator, and supporter. Nursing care for children with pneumonia is mostly supportive. Through health education, the nurse enables parents or caregivers to gain both theoretical and practical understanding of the disease, its progression, treatment, and appropriate actions to take in case of any deterioration in the child’s health. Discussion and conclusion: Pneumonia in children, especially that caused by Mycoplasma pneumoniae, remains a significant health challenge both globally and in countries with developed healthcare systems. Based on the analyzed results and comparison with existing literature, it can be concluded that medical treatment with medication alone is not sufficient without quality nursing care. Comprehensive, humanized, and family-centered healthcare, in which the nurse plays an active role, is essential for improving therapeutic outcomes, reducing the risk of complications, and enhancing the satisfaction of both children and their parents.
