The master’s thesis addresses the process of designing a construction for the organization of office work, intended for users who work from home. The title of the research was chosen based on the experience of pandemic conditions, which largely compelled students and employees to work from home due to safety requirements. The research revealed that many users are not equipped with appropriate working conditions, where ergonomic elements such as a chair and a desk are not the only criteria; well-being and productivity are of fundamental importance as well. The resulting challenges—such as procrastination, chronic illnesses, and other disorders that occur in office environments—needed to be addressed comprehensively.
The research focused on improving user dissatisfaction and on strategies for preventing the aforementioned challenges. The findings showed that employers recognize the benefits of working from home and strive to retain and attract successful employees by emphasizing flexibility, which improves productivity and increases commitment to the company. These insights led to a meaningful further development of the examined topic.
In the field of research concerning the organization of work environments for home-based work, there are relatively few empirical studies and evidence that would unequivocally determine the most effective solutions for such users. By collecting scientific studies, analyzing factors that influence work efficiency, applying methods for better organization, and conducting surveys and interviews, it was possible to develop a workstation concept adapted to both home and office environments.
The basic idea of the concept is a smart panel that is mounted on the edge of the desk, with the aim of optimizing space by removing unnecessary accessories and integrating them into the structure itself. The smart panel controls desk lighting, enables the use of sensors to monitor ergonomic posture and measure indoor environmental quality (IEQ), and allows for the personalization of user settings. The construction is also designed with biophilic design principles in mind, which further contributes to a holistic user experience.
