Abstract

Title:Anxiety, laziness, boredom and other adult thoughts
Abstract:
In my thesis, I explore both the direct and indirect connections between the feelings of anxiety, laziness, and boredom, and the symptoms of contemporary work culture as well as the consumerist mentality of instantly accessible digital content. I investigate my own experiences and the speculations that arise within me about the origins of these parallel signs of such feelings. I am interested in whether I can convince myself and others of how universal this experience is. It seems as though everything moves from bad to worse due to our apathy and indifference, despite our apparent self-awareness. The work does not serve—or at least I do not believe it serves—as a warning against anything, since it feels like we already all know this. Nevertheless, these issues deeply confuse and torment me, which is why I continue to investigate them and attempt to find my own approach to staging their impact on the individual—in this case, a very specific individual—through the medium of video, using a sculptural prop in the form of a puppet.
