Nature's Reflection; Conceptual design of underground Natural history museum in Podgorica, Montenegro

When the authors of major projects along the Morača canyon were still being put through the test of architectural competitions back in the days of modernistic expansion of Podgorica, none of them could have foreseen that in a future filled with strict regulations and laws those that came to life would be challenged by non other than commercial parasites. In reaction to the skyscraper built over Hotel Podgorica, Kana Radević’s modernist masterpiece, my project proposes an alternative approach. It demonstrates that even when a new structure is unjustified, it is still possible to intervene respectfully. The new object attaches itself under Radosav Zeković’s Committee Building, using a parasitic architectural strategy to emphasise and reinforce the existing heritage rather than undermine it.

Abstract

Ko so bili avtorji velikih projektov ob kanjonu Morače v času modernistične širitve Podgorice še izbrani skozi arhitekturne natečaje, si nihče izmed njih ni mogel predstavljati, da bodo v prihodnosti, zaznamovani s strogimi predpisi in zakoni, realizirani projekti soočeni z izzivom komercialnih parazitov. Kot odziv na nebotičnik, zgrajen nad Hotelom Podgorica, modernistično mojstrovino Kane Radević, moj projekt predlaga alternativni pristop. Pokaže, da je tudi takrat, ko je nova struktura neupravičena, mogoče poseči na spoštljiv način. Novi objekt se pritrdi pod Zekovićevo stavbo Komiteja Radosava Zekovića ter s parazitsko arhitekturno strategijo poudari in okrepi obstoječo dediščino, namesto da bi jo spodkopaval.
