Abstract

Title:Influence of joint edge geometry on hot cracking in laser welding of dissimilar materials
Abstract:
The study addresses the issue of hot crack formation during laser welding of dissimilar materials, such as nickel alloy 2.4816 and stainless steel 1.4301. Under constant welding parameters, including pulse energy, focal distance, pulse shape, and feed rate, the influence of joint edge geometry and welding position on the occurrence of hot cracks in fillet welds is analyzed. In addition to the hot cracks examined by microscopy, an analysis of cross-sections is performed, on the basis of which the weld cross-sectional shape and weld dilution are determined, and their influence on crack formation is evaluated. Results show that a certain joint edge geometry results in fewer imperfections in the weld than the configuration without edge preparation; however, the configuration without edge preparation proved to be the most suitable in practice.

Keywords:hot cracks, edge bevels, fillet welds, weld dilution, laser welding, austenitic microstructure
