New $^{14}$C data from the tumuli necropolis of Dubac in Jančići near Čačak and their role in establishing the chronological sequence of the Late Bronze Age for western Serbia

This paper presents 17 new $^{14}$C dates from the tumulus cemetery of Dubac in Jančići, in western Serbia. Burials were accompanied by bronze personal ornaments and occasionally pottery vessels. $^{14}$C dates are considered together with the stratigraphy, mortuary practices and material culture from the graves in two tumuli in order to explore local mortuary conventions and to set these in their regional context. It is shown that after being founded in the third millennium BC, the tumuli were reconfigured and re-used for burials at multi-decade intervals during the 15$^{th}$ to 12$^{th}$ centuries BC.

Abstract

V članku predstavljamo 17 novih $^{14}$C datumov iz gomilnega grobišča Dubac v Jančićih v zahodni Srbiji. V grobove je bilo pridano bronasto osebno okrasje, včasih tudi lončene posode. $^{14}$C datume obravnavamo v povezavi s stratigrafijo, pogrebnimi praksami in materialno kulturo iz grobov v dveh gomilah, z namenom prepoznave lokalnih pogrebnih praks in njihove umestitve v regionalni kontekst. Raziskava je pokazala, da so bile gomile, prvotno postavljene v tretjem tisočletju pr. n. št., kasneje preoblikovane in znova uporabljene za pokope v več desetletnih presledkih med 15. in 12. stoletjem pr. n. št.
