Abstract
The Campania Region (Italy) is world-renowned for its artistic, monumental and historical beauty and possesses no less than six famous UNESCO Sites. But this Region, the most populated in Southern Italy, is also known for its inestimable environmental, geological and agricultural heritage. In its innermost, landlocked part, placed on the Apennine Chain, the most prized and award-winning vine plant varieties are cultivated. This preliminary research focuses its interest on the most intensive vine-growing areas and sets out to analyse the trend of variation in air temperatures through the use of some significant bioclimatic indices such as Cool Night Index and Huglin Index, as well as the variation in mean annual temperatures. The results, based on temperature data collected by measurement agencies in the Campania Region and referring to the period 2001-2024, seem to indicate an upward trend in all index values, which is well known in the Mediterranean area. This has to be seen in relation to the climate changes that are also occurring in small and medium-sized regions and that lead to the changes in vegetation and water availability that we have witnessed in recent decades, with obvious implications for land management.
