Title:Music of the Silenced
Abstract:
The Master Concert, titled Music of the Silenced comprises works, thematically linked with music censorship, composed for female and mixed choir. In the first part of the concert, Women's choir Grudnove Šmikle will perform works from composers Lajos Bárdos, György Ligeti, Sergei Rachmaninoff, Samo Vremšak, Lojze Lebič and William Byrd. In the second part of the concert, Academic choir Tone Tomšič of the University of Ljubljana will perform works from composers Lajos Bárdos, Arvo Pärt, Sergei Rachmaninoff, Samo Vremšak and William Byrd. The master’s thesis introduces the performers of the concert and continues with a presentation of the pieces, which contains the presentation of the composer, a historical analysis, an analysis of the text, a structural analysis and a didactic approach. The presentation of the performers includes Women's choir Grudnove Šmikle, Academic choir Tone Tomšič of the University of Ljubljana and the pianist Antonela Fakin. Presentations on individual pieces starts with a presentation of the composer’s life and work. The historical analysis includes a historical and cultural placement of the piece, the cause for its creation and potential origin of the folk song, if the piece is a folk song arrangement. The textual analysis contains a summary and a translation from foreign languages or Slovenian dialects into literary language, if needed. The structural analysis contains an analysis of the musical form, melodic, rhythmic and harmonic characteristics. The didactical approach presents a plan for the practice of the piece with a choir and highlights the trickier parts of the composition.
