Abstract

Title:IMAGE OF A WOMAN IN CAPITALISMPatriarchal gaze
Abstract:
In the thesis, I am analysing the representation of women with examples from art history, film theory, popular media and marketing, trying to understand what is the image of women in capitalism. The text is based on a feminist theory of patriarchal gaze and describes how the popular media and marketing are creating the beauty oppression with gender representation.
The practical part of the thesis is an exhibition, “When you see my fake lashes, do you imagine my shaved p****. I will represent a few interconnected multi-media artworks. The works represent the visual thinking of the topics represented in the textual part of the thesis. In the works I use a humorous, personal and critical approach, which is inspired by personal experience. I am playing with the concept of social and visual guidelines related mostly to hairless ideals and gender identity.

Keywords:painting, representation of women in art, male gaze, feminist art, beauty myth, body hair, multimedia installation, BA thesis
