The development of Slovenian poetry after the Second World War can be observed in a recognizable line; this line, however, does not explain poetic production in its entirety. Thus, of interest are those argumentative strategies and ideological self-evident presuppositions that support focusing on this particular developmental line exclusively and neglecting others. This case study is based on Jože Pogačnik’s argumentation in the eighth book of his referential Zgodovina slovenskega slovstva (History of Slovenian Literature, 1972), focusing primarily on the criteria according to which postwar Slovenian poetry was said to move closer to global or common human feeling.
