Abstract
Nov vinski center spremeni prej arhitekturno anonimen objekt v prepoznavno vinsko arhitekturo, ki postane nosilec mestne blagovne znamke “Ptuj, mesto vina”.

Title:
Architectural proposal for the revitalisation of Ptujska klet's winery
Abstract:
This master’s thesis addresses the question of the future role of the production wine cellar in Ptuj city centre and reflects on the consequences of the possible relocation of the wine production outside of the city. It highlights the Ptuj Wine Cellar as one of the fundamental pillars of the city’s identity and a primary element in shaping and strengthening the brand of Ptuj as a city of wine. Despite the symbolic role the Ptuj Wine Cellar plays in the city, the production wine cellar, located on the edge of the historic city centre, is degraded both spatially and programmatically. As a result of the continued production of wine, the wine cellar building does not connect with its surrounding context, therefore preventing active integration with its forecourt. This degraded condition exposes the central conflict of the thesis: fully exploiting the developmental potential of the site would require relocating the production element outside of the city centre, however, this threatens the role of the Ptuj Wine Cellar as a bearer of the city’s identity. Thus, the thesis focuses on exploring architectural and programmatic strategies for the revitalisation of the area in ways that preserve and simultaneously strengthen the role of the Ptuj Wine Cellar in the urban space while also realising its conceptual and developmental potential. The aim is to reconnect the currently fragmented area of the production wine cellar with the city centre and integrate it into the wider urban network of public spaces. Special emphasis is placed on the vaulted cellars, which are transformed from the presently hidden and unrecognised environments into publicly accessible and programmatically active parts of the city. On this basis, the thesis proposes the relocation of the wine production out of the city centre as a necessary precondition for the comprehensive revitalisation of the area. Through the programmatic transformation of the existing building from a production-oriented facility into a House of Wine, it creates opportunities for the development of wine culture through art, education, and gastronomy. The new centre transforms a previously architecturally anonymous building into a recognisable piece of wine architecture that becomes a conveyor of the city’s brand “Ptuj, City of Wine”.
