Background: The aim of this case report is to compare the early physiotherapeutic treatment of two patients with biventricular assist device in a hospital. Methods: The physiotherapeutic assessment and the physiotherapeutic procedures in the early physiotherapeutic treatment of two patients aged 55 and 56 years in a hospital are presented. Patients were assessed using a numerical rating scale for pain assessment, assessment of respiratory status, the modified Barthel Index, the De Morton Mobility Index and dynamometry for handgrip strength. Various physiotherapeutic methods were used. Results: The patients were able to walk independently at discharge, one patient without assistance and the other with the aid of a rollator. Both patients showed improvement in respiratory function, handgrip muscle strength and functional mobility on discharge from hospital. Conclusion: Early physiotherapy treatment of the two patients with biventricular assist device proved to be effective and safe in restoring independence until discharge from hospital. Our report of two cases with biventricular assist device shows that the initial condition and rehabilitation of these patients may vary and require individualized physiotherapy treatment. To ensure safety, heart rate, mean blood pressure, blood oxygen saturation and perceived exertion should be monitored before and after physiotherapy treatment. It is important to include the physiotherapist in the interdisciplinary team of experts treating patients with mechanical circulatory support of the heart.
