The master’s thesis Analysis of the Efficiency of Jet Fans for Smoke and Heat Extraction in a Parking Garage presents the jet fan system, its modeling, effectiveness, and various fire scenarios with accompanying analyses. The theoretical part outlines the difference between the jet fan system and the ducted smoke extraction system, along with a comparison of their efficiency in case of fire. Fire safety guidelines, tenability criteria, and the standards BS 7346-7 and PD 7974-6 are also presented, defining threshold values for temperature, visibility, and air velocity during a fire. In the main part of the thesis, a 3D model of the garage and the entire ventilation system with jet fans was created using the PyroSim program. Several fire simulations were performed, varying in vehicle location, presence of fans, and their operation. The scenarios include fan failure, delayed activation, different vehicle positions, and simulations without jet fans. The final analysis shows that jet fans have a significant impact on smoke movement, temperature distribution, and visibility, and are crucial for ensuring evacuation safety and reducing the risk of secondary fires.
