Abstract

Abstract:
The purpose of the master's thesis has been to examine which variables influence on the onset of tree deaths. The main goal has been to figure out the laws governing the occurrence of the tree deaths in Zasavje on the basis of permanent sample plots of Slovenia Forest service. Detailed field analysis has been used to determine the characteristics of the spatial distribution of large woody debris. Clark's and Evansʼs index and Ripley's K(t) function have been used for the data analysis. Logistic regression has been used for the data analysis on the occurrence of tree deaths in the permanent sample plots .The analysis has showed that beech, valuable broadleves and hornbeam are lesslikely to die than conifers. Cutting, higher basal area of conifers and increased breast diameter of the trees according to the median reducing the probability of occurrence of tree deaths. On the other hand, chestnut, tree damage and slope are increasing the probability of tree deaths. Dissimilar results have been obtained from various tests in data analysis from the field.Random distribution of large woody debris have been found at the majority of plots sized 1ha on the basis of Ripley's K(t) function but a considerable part of plots have been characterized as a clustered distribution. The largest proportion of plots with cluster distribution has been at the distance of 18 meters. Field measurements have been conducted among the dead tree remains and it has been dominated by lying dead trees. Spruce and beech have been dominated among the tree species. Most of the dead tree remains have been in the first diameter class and at least in the third class.
