Abstract

Abstract:
In Slovenia the concept of forest planning is uniform regardless of ownership, the intensity of management and the management interests of the owners which rises the question of usefulness of plans and costs of elaboration. One of the possible solutions is the forestry property plan (FPP). FPP would enable to adjust the planning of intensive management to the interests of the owners. In the research we assessed the basis for the introducing of the plans in forest management unit (FMU) Slovenj Gradec. 179 forest owners from 4 size categories of the whole area of FMU Slovenj Gradec were randomly chosen for filling out the questionnaire. In the first part the goal was to find out the differences between the owners based on size categories. The essential finding was that with the rising size of the forestproperty the share of full farmers and owners who get most of their profit out of their forest grow as well. In the second part our intention was to find out how the owners are familiar to present management plans and information needed for management and what the possibilities for introducing FPP are. For the sylvicultural plans the result was surprising, as around 80 % of the owners stated of knowing and using the plans. Forest owners were best informed about the forest property borders, about the allowable cut, and about the tailoring the woods. 60 % of the respondents answered that FPP would be a favourable and useful tool aiming at the management of the property. With FPP the relationship between forest owners and foresters would strengthen.
