The master's thesis presents the design of a steel simply supported bridge with a 45 m span in accordance with Eurocode standards. The bridge cross-section comprises of two girders with a total height of 2906 mm that are 6 m apart. The girders are connected by a flange with a 3 m long cantilever. The girder flange is orthotropic with longitudinal stiffeners, transmitting compressive stresses from the global moment and local bending moments from direct traffic loads. The analysis of the resistance of the cross-section with the orthotropic plate takes into account the shear lag of the flanges, as well as the local and global buckling of the stiffened plate. The stresses on the cross-section are determined by considering the combined effects of local wheel and tyre loads and global traffic loads. Fatigue checks are performed for selected details. The fatigue effects were determined using damage equivalence factors. The resistance and stiffness of transverse and longitudinal stiffeners and transverse beams are also checked, taking into account the influence of deviation forces and geometric nonlinearity. Checks are performed for the serviceability limit state. Finally, the connections between the structural elements are also analysed.
