Abstract
V gozdarstvu so v uporabi skoraj vse vrste motorjev z notranjim zgorevanjem, zato se v tem delu osredotočamo predvsem na dizelske motorje traktorjev. Moderni traktorski motorji so po osnovni sestavi ostali vseskozi enaki, le da so jih dopolnili z raznimi sistemi, ki izboljšajo delovanje in zmanjšajo porabo goriva, kot so turbo polnilnik, hladilnik polnilnega zraka, skupni vod za vbrizg goriva. Podan je seznam sestavnih delov in pomožnih sistemov motorja, z opisom vsakega izmed njih. Še posebej smo se osredotočili na delovanje sistemov za dovod in vbrizg goriva in dovod zraka. Del naloge je namenjen tudi karakteristikam motorja, kot so moč, navor, specifična poraba goriva, podane so tudi glavne lastnosti goriv. Ugotovljeno je, da se specifična poraba goriva manjša, motorji pa delujejo z večjo močjo in navorom kot njihovi predhodniki z enako prostornino, manjši so tudi izpusti škodljivih snovi.

Abstract:
Almost all types of internal combustion engines are in use in forestry, therefore we will be concentrating mainly on engines instaled in tractors. Modern tractor engines have been more or less the same throughout their evolution, except that they were upgraded with sistems that increase performance such as the turbocharger, intercooler, common rail. All the main engine components and sistems are listed and described, with special emphasis on air intake components and fuel distribution and injection components. A part of this paper is intended for the description of engine characteristics such as power, torque and specific fuel consumption. Main fuels and their parameters are also listed. By comparison of the latest and previous types of engines with same displacement it can be established that fuel consumption decreased and that power and torque increased, the amount of exhaust gasses also decreased.
